RAVE REVIEWS FOR BREATHTAKING DECISIONS SEMINARS

During February and March The Center held seminars around the country to equip hundreds of people to:

1. understand changes taking place in health care;

2. identify particularly important bioethical challenges today;

3. compare Christian and other approaches to bioethics

4. evaluate when to forgo treatment;

5. assess the growing openness towards assisted suicide, and

6. consider the use of advance directives such as living wills.

The seminars, running from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon, were held in Washington, DC; Redlands, CA; Rockford, IL; Minneapolis, MN; and Naples, FL. Christian Medical and Dental Society and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School cosponsored the events. The program at each site featured presentations by and dialogue with nationally prominent leaders in bioethics, along with case study discussions facilitated by panels of local physicians, nurses, lawyers, clergy, and others. Official conference evaluations as well as correspondence received by The Center following the events have been extremely positive. Participants have particularly appreciated the opportunity to compare Christian and non-Christian approaches to bioethical issues—something rarely done in bioethics conferences, books, and other educational resources. The Center is currently planning another national series of these seminars for next year.
