MIJA KIM, R.N.,PH.D.
Dr. Kim is currently Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the USA. She received her B.S.N. from Yon K Sei University in Seoul, Korea, and her Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She sits on the Health of the Public Advisory Boards of the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as well as the Steering Committee of the National Health Policy Council. In the past she has been a member of the White House Health Professional Review Group for Health Care Reform and has served as Secretary General for a World Health Organization Global Network of nursing-related centers. Listed in the Chicago Tribune as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Chicago, she has received numerous awards and honors for her writing, research, and teaching.
ROBERT D. ORR, M.D.
Dr. Orr presently serves as Director of Clinical Ethics and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center (Loma Linda, California, USA), where he also co-directs the ethics center. After receiving his medical degree from McGill University, he did residency training in family medicine and engaged in private practice for eighteen years. His growing interest in ethical issues led him to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago. He was a member of the Ethics Commission of the Christian Medical and Dental Society for six years, serving as chairman from 1991-1994. Among his many writings, Dr. Orr has coauthored the book Life and Death Decisions, and he continues to lecture, write and consult widely about resolving dilemmas in patient care.
