New Interest Groups & Broader Range of Paper Topics

Welcome at July Conference After 11 annual bioethics conferences, it has become clear that an increasing number of people want to attend each year. But the focus on a single topic makes it hard for some to justify attending some years. This year, the annual conference will have two new features that will encourage people to plan to attend every July. First, during extended lunch periods, time will be devoted to interest group meetings so that people with a special interest in one area of bioethics can meet annually to network and get access to the latest cutting-edge information. There will be 8 group meetings spaced through 4 time blocks: end-of-life issues, clinical ethics, health care organization and economics, stem cell research and cloning, reproductive technologies, genetics, neuroethics and emerging biotechnologies, and engaging the world. Second, those who wish to present papers can do so on any topic in bioethics. (One-page abstracts and bio sketches are due to Jim Moscato at jmoscato@cbhd.org by April 22.)

CBHD Voice Being Heard

In the second half of this past quarter alone, CBHD had the opportunity to address numerous significant venues, such as PAX TV’s “Faith Under Fire” program, MBN’s “Prime Time America”, Johns Hopkins University’s Genetics and Public Policy Center’s germline modification national policy development conference, and the Center for Practical Bioethics’ national stem cell research initiative. Increasingly, CBHD is being recognized as a responsible, thoughtful voice on bioethics issues whose perspective needs to be considered.
