Director of Clinical Ethics Announced

CBHD announces the appointment of Robert Orr, M.D. as its new Director of Clinical Ethics. Dr. Orr is a prolific author, speaker, and clinical ethics consultant and brings a wealth of clinical ethics experience to this position. Having served for many years as head of clinical ethics at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California, Dr. Orr is now Director of Ethics at Fletcher Allen Health Care and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He has been Family Doctor of the Year in Vermont, Chair of the Medical Ethics Commission of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations, and Vice President of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities. Dr. Orr will continue his clinical and organizational ethics work in Vermont while serving in his new post at the Center.


Center Personnel Speak to the Media

During the flurry of media activity following the cloning announce ment by Advanced Cell Technology (ACT), Center bioethicists had several opportunities to be interviewed on television, radio, and by print journalists. Most notably, Center President John Kilner was interviewed on CNN, Senior Fellow Nigel Cameron debated University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics Director Arthur Caplan on Tech TV, Senior Fellow C. Ben Mitchell was quoted in USA Today and was interviewed on nearly a dozen radio programs (several of which were nationally syndicated), and Fellow Donal O’Mathuna’s op/ed piece was printed in the Columbus Dispatch and also quoted in USA Today.
