Nancy L. Jones, PhD is Adjunct Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM). Since September 2005, she is a science policy fellow (American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)/ National Institutes of Health (NIH)).
Dr. Jones received her BS in Biochemistry at Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University (1981) and her PhD in Biochemistry at WFUSM (1987). She received a Dean’s Fellowship and a National Research Service Award for graduate training in Cell Biology and Pharmacology of Cancer. Her postdoctoral training in Molecular and Cellular Pathology was also a National Research Service Award (1987-88). Dr. Jones received a MA in Bioethics from Trinity International University in 2003.
For seventeen years, Dr. Jones was on the faculty of WFUSM in Pathology with a research focus on the macrophages role in atherosclerosis with NIH and American Heart Association funding. She was active in graduate and medical education at WFUSM. Her WFUSM committee service has included The Bioethics Task Force, Institutional Review Board, the Clinical Ethics Committee and the University Senate. She is a member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, the American Society for Cell Biology, Council on Arteriosclerosis of the American Heart Association, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. She serves as a Fellow for The Council for Biotechnology Policy of The Wilberforce Forum. Dr. Jones was appointed to the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Human Research Protection (SACHRP) (2002-2007).
