
Benjamin Parviz is a philosopher and ethicist who works primarily in the field of bioethics. His research focuses on hope, despair, and how culture and medicine interact with a patient’s experiences of hope and despair. His work primarily draws upon Gabriel Marcel and the Christian tradition in order to examine topics such as physician-assisted suicide, transhumanism, medical decision-making, and preparation to die well. Ben is a PhD candidate at Saint Louis University studying Philosophy & Bioethics in the departments of philosophy and healthcare ethics, where he also teaches undergraduate courses in healthcare ethics, philosophy, and theology. He holds a BA in Theology from Concordia University Chicago, an MA in Theological Studies from Saint Louis University, and an MA in Philosophy from University of Missouri – St. Louis. Formerly, he taught theology at Lutheran High School in St. Peters, Missouri. He resides in the Dogtown neighborhood of St. Louis with his wife and children. He is on X @parvizbd.
