It is not expected that Orr Fellowship recipients will have an educational background in bioethics; rather, this fellowship provides an opportunity to further engage the aims of character formation and development of vocational calling, thinking Christianly about what it means to be human and how this should impact the realms of science, medicine and technology.
The Fellowship will greatly broaden the student’s educational experience, pressing deeper into the question of what kind of person we should become given God’s creational structure and the integration of the physical and spiritual realms.
The Orr Fellowship pays $10/hour up to $4,000 per year. We are looking for someone to fill a 10-month position with a two-year commitment; however, consideration will be given to exceptional candidates with prior commitments that inhibit this. Strong candidates for the fellowship will be talented Honors College students who have shown remarkable academic performance and who also demonstrate strong research potential and an interest in the implications of biblical and theological perspectives for engaging issues at the intersection of medicine, science, technology, and our common humanity.
Orr Fellowship recipients will be provided with free books and other resources to equip them with a core knowledge of Christian bioethics. They are also expected to work for The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity (CBHD), a leading Christian bioethics research center, for 10 hours per week, assisting with the production of CBHD’s church-directed forum, Intersections, and performing research and other tasks for the Center.
