Daniel A. Beals, MD

Daniel A. Beals, M.D., is an associate professor of surgery and pediatrics at the University of Kentucky. He presently serves as a member of several ethics committees, both locally and nationally. He is also a fellow of The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity.

Dr. Beals attended Carson-Newman College, earning a combined Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and chemistry. He received his M.D. from Tulane University and went on to train in surgery, pediatric surgical critical care, and pediatric surgery. After completing this training, Dr. Beals became chief of pediatric surgery at Kessler Medical Center in the United States Air Force. After his tenure with the military, Dr. Beals became Assistant Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of South Alabama and then rose to the rank of Associate Professor. During his time at Alabama, he began coursework for a master's degree in bioethics at Trinity International University, which he is currently pursuing. He has also taught several courses in bioethics and initiated a course in surgical ethics.

Since moving to the University of Kentucky, Dr. Beals has continued to teach and publish on a wide range of bioethical issues.
