What is the selection process?
Scholars’ applications will be reviewed by the Executive Staff and the Event and Education Manager. Selection will be based on the qualifications of the applicant, quality of the proposed research, and suitability of the Center to provide what is needed.
What are my responsibilities?
Scholars will be expected to have a plan for research when they arrive in Deerfield. They should plan on being available to meet with CBHD scholars and fellows to foster mutual learning. Two months after returning to their home country, scholars who wish to apply for a GBEI grant will submit a grant proposal to the Event and Education Manager. Any other responsibilities will be arranged on an individual basis. Some of these responsibilities may include presenting an academic paper at the summer conference or giving a lecture during the preconference institutes.
What are the dates for GBEI?
We ask that scholars spend four weeks at the Center and are here for our annual summer conference in July. Generally scholars arrive the second week in July and leave at the end of the month. Specific dates will be arranged with the Event and Education Manager.
What costs are covered by the Center?
CBHD will cover the costs for travel and lodging and provide a fixed budget that should cover basic food costs and other necessities. Any expense beyond the food budget is the responsibility of the scholar.
Can my family travel with me?
Yes, as long as the GBEI recipient covers all of their family’s costs and it does not interfere with the planned time at the Center.
What sort of lodging will I receive?
Provided lodging will be in an apartment on campus or an extended stay hotel. CBHD will determine where depending on each scholars needs.
